Kenmore 46-9002 Whirlpool 8171413 Water Filter
Located at the inside the refrigerator compartment at the rear wall in a vertical position. Easily twist to remove and replace. This NSF Certified fridge water filter reduces chlorine, taste & odor, particulates and more while retaining beneficial fluoride. It has a Flow Rate of 0.5 (gpm) and is made of carbon block material. It is recommended to change your filter every 6-months or 200 gallons. When installing your new filter it is a required to completely flush the system with a couple of gallons of water from the dispenser area. This will reduce air build-up and assure the freshest, cleanest water. You will not need any tools for this repair. Size approx. 5 3/4 inches (length) x 3 1/2 inches (diameter) - Similar in shape of a vehical oil filter.

8171413 Replacement Instructions

  1. Twist the old filter a quarter-turn counterclockwise
  2. Pull the filter straight down and discard (the water will shut off automatically)
  3. Push the new filter up into the fridge until it stops
  4. Twist the filter a quarter-turn clockwise
  5. Reset your change filter light (if your fridge has one)

Resetting Your Filter Change Indicator

  1. Press the light switch (the one that the refrigerator door presses each time you close the door) 5 times within 10 seconds.
  2. OR: if the refrigerator has a filter button, press and hold it for 5-10 seconds.

Maintenance For Refrigerator Water Filtration System.

  1. Flush Filter with Water from Dispenser (Approximately 2 gallons) until Water Runs Clear and air is purged from system.
  2. Write the date of installation on the filter and mark your calander for 4 - 6 months as a reminder to Change Your Filter.
